Frequently asked questions.
What are permutations?
Permutations is the name of my ongoing studio exploration of a single shape. The series evolved over many years of exploration of various geometric techniques that I had been using as design elements in previous work, but now I am exploring technique itself as a subject. However oblique, esoteric or confusing the subjects of my previous work had been, there had always been attempts at exploring personal themes. With Permutations, I do sometimes explore these themes, but they tend to arise from more pure studies of line, color, geometry and other artistic techniques.
What is group shipping?
Since most of my customers are in the U.S., I’ve added this option. If you are not in a hurry for your art, I can bundle your shipment with other buyers. I will ship to a partner in the U.S. who will then forward your art to you. This allows both of us to save money on shipping.
How long will shipping take?
I typically will ship your art within 1-3 business days from the time of your payment. I ship using DHL. Items typically reach their destinations within 1-2 weeks. If you are flexible regarding when you can receive your order and live in the U.S., consider using the Group Shipping option (see above).
Why is shipping so expensive?
Although my art is lightweight because it is on paper, I pack it in the most protective way possible in a box with bubble wrap, so it is larger than an envelope, and therefore more expensive to ship. Currently, prices are inflated because of COVID-19. I will adjust prices as soon as they have been lowered here.
Do you do commissions?
I am open to working on new PERMUTATIONS based on your aesthetic desires. The best way for this to happen is for you to pick one of my previous PERMUTATIONS that you like, but request a specific color palette. I prefer not to make art that is completely different from my current style, so I will refuse projects that don’t make sense to me. That said, I am fairly open-minded, so please send me a message if you are interested in a commission. I ask for a non-refundable 50% deposit on all commission work.
how do you come up with pricing?
I price my pieces based mostly on size, complexity and media. However, you may notice that very minimal pieces that clearly took less time to execute are priced the same as pieces that clearly took much more time. My philosophy is that each work informs the next, and one cannot exist without working through the countless pieces that precede it, so you are essentially paying for all of the work I’ve ever done that has informed your individual piece.
Works that are entirely created with pen are less expensive than pieces that combine pen and paint. Works created with collage are more expensive because I use original and often vintage materials which are thus completely unique and unable to ever be reproduced. I have been slowly raising my prices over the years and my prices may change without notice, but I will never try to raise a price after you’ve already purchased.
